New Camera Modes For Mavic 3 After Firmware Update

This blog has been updated to include the January 24, 2022, Mavic 3 firmware update. This follows a firmware update released in December 2021.

• Mavic 3 given additional features, as promised when the drone was released in November 2021;
• The January 2022 firmware update further improves the Mavic 3's content creation capabilities, adding features such as QuickShots, Panorama mode and burst shooting;
• It follows a sooner-than-expected firmware update in December 2021, which provided functionality for FocusTrack, MasterShots, and Timelapse, and adding RAW Only photo format;
• Update the aircraft firmware to v01.00.0500, the standard remote controller firmware to v04.13.0500, and the DJI Fly App (iOS/Android) to v1.5.8;
• The RC Pro has also been updated (v03.01.0500) to improve the controller and make it compatible with the DJI Air 2S. 

DJI has released a major firmware update for the Mavic 3 drone, giving operators access to exciting new camera features.

The update provides features such as QuickShots, Panorama mode and burst shooting, as well as other additions like support to set the Return To Home altitude for Advanced RTH.  

Released yesterday, it follows the sooner-than-expected firmware update in December which added functionality for FocusTrack, MasterShots, and Timelapse, as well as adding a RAW Only photo format.

 

 

It means the Mavic 3 now packs even more power as a camera drone, giving operators further flexibility and capability to capture seriously attractive and eye-catching content.    

Mavic 3 pilots should update the aircraft firmware to v01.00.0500, the standard remote controller firmware to v04.13.0500, and the DJI Fly App (iOS/Android) to v1.5.8.

DJI has also released a firmware update for the RC Pro, so users of this next-gen smart controller should update to the latest firmware (v03.01.0500). This update adds improvements to the controller, as well as making it compatible with the DJI Air 2S drone.

Here is a list of all of the new features on the Mavic 3 firmware update, released on January 24, 2022.

• Added QuickShots including Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, and Asteroid.
• Added Panorama mode, capable of capturing in high resolution.
• Added burst shooting.
• Added digital zoom for normal video mode.
• Added Colour Display Assist for D-Log.
• Added 4K/60fps and manual EI adjustment for MasterShots.
• Added QuickTransfer.
• Added zoom and D-Log for FocusTrack when recording video.
• Added support to set RTH altitude for Advanced RTH.
• Added USB mode for Mavic 3 Cine for copying data.
• Optimised accuracy of color correction.
• Increased image sharpness of Tele camera when shooting at high magnification.
• Optimised image area for Timelapse photos.
• Added support to DJI RC Pro to output clean HDMI footage.
• Added support for DJI RC Pro to cache video and download original video to an external SD card.
• Added support to use DJI RC Pro with DJI Air 2S.
• Fixed some minor bugs

Please note that USB mode will be disabled after updating the firmware. Users can enable USB mode again in DJI Fly.

If the update fails, restart aircraft, remote controller, and DJI Fly or DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones
Series), and retry.

Mavic 3 Firmware Update - Key Features Explained

The firmware updates of January 2022 and December 2021 have added some exciting camera features to the Mavic 3.

We take a look at these functions and how they can help your aerial photography and video creation.

 

 

QuickShots

Using QuickShots, the drone will capture content, quickly and easily, using the  Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, and Asteroid functions. 

Each of these functions make the drone capture content differently, ie Helix makes the aircraft ascend and spiral around its subject; Dronie makes the Mavic 3 fly backwards and then ascends, with the camera locked on the subject; and Circle makes the aircraft circle around the subject.

Panorama Mode

Panorama mode allows pictures to be directly stitched and processed by the drone, without the DJI Fly app or any post-production, allowing users to capture breathtaking landscapes with sweeping breadth and rich detail.

 

 

QuickTransfer

This function lets users store and process material on their mobile devices without linking with the remote controller.

The Mavic 3 can transmit material from the drone to the mobile device more quickly through the WiFi 6 protocol.

FocusTrack

FocusTrack is an exciting mode which includes Spotlight 2.0, Point of Interest 3.0, and ActiveTrack 5.0.

Spotlight 2.0

Control the aircraft manually while the camera remains locked on the subject. The mode supports both stationary and moving subjects such as vehicles, boats, and people. 

Point of Interest 3.0 (POI 3.0)

The aircraft tracks the subject in a circle based on the radius and flight speed that is set. The mode supports both static and moving subjects such as vehicles, boats, and people. 

ActiveTrack 5.0

ActiveTrack 5.0 is divided into Trace and Parallel, which support tracking both stationary and moving subjects such as vehicles, boats, and people. 

The aircraft will bypass obstacles in ActiveTrack 5.0 regardless of the settings in DJI Fly.

• Trace: The aircraft tracks the subject at a constant distance and altitude with a constant angle with the direction of the subject. The aircraft can track subjects in eight directions.
• Parallel: The aircraft tracks the subject at a constant angle and distance from the side.
  
  

MasterShots

Lets users create high-quality content more easily and quickly. After automatic editing and dubbing in the app, videos can be created in minutes and directly shared with friends.

Timelapse (Hyperlapse)

Shooting modes include Free, Circle, Course Lock, and Waypoints.

• Free: The aircraft automatically takes photos and generates a timelapse video.
• Circle: The aircraft automatically takes photos while flying around the selected subject to generate a timelapse video.
• Course Lock: Course Lock can be used in two ways. In the first way, the orientation of the aircraft is fixed, but a subject cannot be selected. In the second way, the orientation of the aircraft is fixed and the aircraft flies around a selected object.
• Waypoints: The aircraft automatically takes photos on a flight path of two to five waypoints and generates a timelapse video. The aircraft can fly in order from waypoint 1 to 5 or 5 to 1.

RAW Only Format For Photos

The ability to shoot only in RAW is something professional users have desired for a long time, and the Mavic 3 is finally delivering on that.
