NDVI Approved Used Phantom 4 - A Custom Heliguy Build

Heliguy has created this modified Phantom 4 to give those working in the Agriculture industry a route into the NDVI surveying market at very low cost. This setup will allow you to survey crops, perform growth mapping and accurately detect weeds. Upon ordering, the team will inform you of lead times and delivery dates.

The Phantom 4 NDVI Kit

Heliguy's NDVI solution is mounted to one of DJI's most popular quadcopters from the Phantom range, the Phantom 4 model.

The DJI Phantom 4 is a reliable quadcopter which puts a suite of intelligent flight modes at your disposal. Easy to fly through the intuitive DJI GO app, you'll have no problem getting airborne and conducting surveys with this drone.

Precise GPS aids flying out in the field and a downward facing camera and ultrasound unit provide enhanced stability when you're operating closer to the ground. This also makes it much easier to fly indoors.

The NDVI Solution

Heliguy is offering a custom build of the Phantom 3 Professional to enable customers to offer NDVI services. NDVI Cameras are incredibly powerful and can be used in a range of industries, most commonly, agriculture.

NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) acts as a crucial indicator of vegetation health. This is an indispensable tool for crop management and other agricultural use cases such as monitoring the efficacy of irrigation.

An operator uses near-infrared imagery technology to construct an NDVI map which displays the level of vegetation strength within the survey area. These results enable proactive steps to be taken to address any issues raised during the NDVI scanning process.

Drone Laws, Licences and Training Requirements

Until 31 December 2020

Where Can I Fly?

Drone pilots should follow the Drone Code, or permissions granted by their PfCO/standard permission.

Do I need to register my drone in the UK?

Yes. See the Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service page for more details.

After December 31 2020 (Transitional Period)

Where Can I Fly?

There can be no uninvolved people present within the area of flight; and there can be no flight within 150m horizontally of residential, commercial, industrial, or recreational areas (A3 subcategory of Open category).

Want more freedom? Complete an A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC) and you can fly as close as 50m horizontally of uninvolved people (A2 subcategory).

There is no limitation on proximity to buildings. But this is not a free for all, because the prescribed separation distances from uninvolved people still apply to persons that are occupants of any vehicle, vessel or structure.

How Do I Get an A2 CofC?

Sit an A2 CofC with a Recognised Assessment Entity, such as Heliguy. The A2 CofC course is currently being run online through Heliguy Blackbox.

Do I need to register my drone?

Yes. See the Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service page for more details.

What Happens If I Have a PfCO?

Holders of a standard permission valid beyond December 31 2020 can operate under the terms of the permission, until their renewal date. Then apply to fly under an Operational Authorisation (replacing the PfCO).

From January 2023 (End of Transitional Period)

The rules will change for DJI aircraft in their current form. Updated information released nearer the time.
