Full Description

DJI Mavic Mini

The ultra-lightweight and portable drone from DJI.

What is the Mavic Mini?

DJI has recently unveiled the Mavic Mini drone. This new drone weighs 249g, meaning that it will not need to be registered with the UK or USA Governments.

Weighing under 250 grams, the DJI Mavic Mini is almost as light as the average smartphone.

This makes it exceptionally portable and places it in the lowest and safest weight class of drones, which in many countries may exempt it from specific regulations.

Key Features

  • 249g Ultralight and measures 160mm (length) x 202mm (width) x 55mm (height) unfolded
  • 30-minute maximum flight time; Top speed of 46.8kph / 29mph in s-mode
  • Up to 4km HD Video Transmission
  • Vision Sensor + GPS Precise Hover
  • 3-Axis Gimbal supporting 12MP aerial photos and 2.7K Quad HD videos
  • Mavic Mini’s QuickShot modes include Dronie, Circle, Helix, and Rocket

The DJI Fly App

The new DJI Fly app offers a simple and intuitive user experience, enabling you to create cinematic shots and awesome videos with just a few taps. Even beginners with no editing experience whatsoever can turn any moment into a social media hit. It even has Flight Tutorial, a feature to help you get started with Mavic Mini quickly and safely.

Mavic Mini Remote Controller

The Mavic Mini also uses a dedicated remote controller that maintains an HD, low-latency video feed at a distance of up to 4km. Detachable control sticks can be easily stored inside the remote controller for added portability.

Under 250g Drone Registration Threshold

The most portable drone ever created by DJI.

Exceptionally Portable.

Weighing under 250 grams, the Mavic Mini is almost as light as the average smartphone.

This makes it exceptionally portable and places it in the lowest and safest weight class of drones, which in many countries may exempt it from certain regulations.

For example, in the UK, United States, Canada, and China, you can fly the Mavic Mini without the need to register it with the government, as it falls under the 250g drone registration threshold.

It also means that the DJI Mavic Mini is the most portable drone ever created by the industry giant.

It's compact and light enough to take everywhere - which means you're going to have the chance to capture a lot more memories!

DJI Mavic Mini Review

Mavic Mini Review

In our Mavic Mini Review we talked about six different reasons to buy the Mavic Mini.

For its size - it has a brilliant camera, can be flown in a wide range of environments, has a fully-featured app compatible with the vast majority of mobile devices, and at just £369 it's hard to argue that it isn't the best value drone on the market right now.

The Mavic Mini Battery gives a flight time of around 30 minutes - which is well above most competing drones at this price point.

Add to that the ease of flight that we've come to expect from DJI drones and you can see why the Mavic Mini has been a huge success.

DJI Mavic Mini FAQs

Where to buy the DJI Mavic Mini?

Heliguy are an official UK DJI Gold dealer.

This means you'll get official DJI stock, access to our expert support team and free next day delivery.

Simply choose the Mavic Mini or the Mavic Mini Fly More Combo at the top of this page and checkout!

Will the Mavic Mini get a Follow Me function?

The DJI Mavic Mini doesn't have a "Follow Me" function - which DJI commonly call ActiveTrack.

However, DJI have the potential to add this functionality in at a later date.

There has been no official confirmation that the ActiveTrack feature will appear on the Mavic Mini as of yet - however - given the calls for it to be added from many DJI users - it may be something that arrives in the coming months.

Can the Mavic Mini fly in rain?

No - the Mavic Mini doesn't have any kind of IP rating, isn't waterproof and shouldn't be flow in rain, snow, high winds or any other kind of precipitation.

You should always fly your drone within the operational limits of that particular drone, and within the local laws and regulations.

Does the Mavic Mini work with DJI Goggles?

No - the Mavic Mini doesn't support DJI Goggles or DJI Goggles Racing Edition.

Support for the Goggles may be added at a later date via app or firmware update, but there has been no official confirmation from DJI that the Mini will ever support any of DJI's FPV Goggles.

If you would like to use the Goggles, we'd suggest looking at a Mavic 2 instead.

Is the Mavic Mini worth it?

Heliguy certainly think so!

You're getting a lightweight drone with a great flight time at an incredible price point.

When you consider that just a couple of years ago this technology would've cost over £2k and would've had a 10 minute flight time - the Mavic Mini represents incredible value for money.

Can the Mavic Mini shoot in RAW?

The Mavic Mini does not have the ability to shoot in RAW.

The photos you take will be stored in JPEG format only.

Can the Mavic Mini do flips or any other kind of tricks?

No - the Mavic Mini isn't designed as a "trick" drone.

If you're hoping to have some fun with some aerial acrobatics, we'd recommend exploring the DJI Tello range instead.

Which memory card should I buy for the Mavic Mini?

The Mavic Mini supports microSD cards only.

Officially - the minimum specifications for the microSD card are:

UHS-I Speed Class 3 or above

Drone Laws, Licences and Training Requirements

Until 31 December 2020

Where Can I Fly?

Drone pilots should follow the Drone Code, or permissions granted by their PfCO/standard permission.

Do I need to register my drone in the UK?

No. There is no need to register under the Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service.

After December 31 2020 (Transitional Period)

Where Can I Fly?

As standard, the Mavic Mini weighs 249g, meaning that you can operate in the A1 Category of the Open Category. This means that you can fly over uninvolved people, but not over crowds. All you need to do before you fly is read the drone's user manual.

However, if you are operating outside and add items to your Mavic Mini, such as prop guards or the snap adaptor, this will take the weight over the 250g threshold, meaning that you will have to operate in the A1 Transitional category, which stipulates no intentional flight over uninvolved persons. However, to be able to do this, you will need to complete an A2 Certificate of Competency.

If your Mavic Mini exceeds the 250g flying weight and you are flying outdoors, but you do not have an A2 CofC, then you will have to operate your drone within the rules of the A3 subcategory of the Open Category, which stipulates no uninvolved people present within the area of flight; and no flight within 150m horizontally of residential, commercial, industrial or recreational areas

Do I need to register my drone?

Yes. See the Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service page for more details.

What Happens If I Have a PfCO?

Holders of a standard permission valid beyond December 31 2020 can operate under the terms of the permission, until their renewal date. Then apply to fly under an Operational Authorisation (replacing the PfCO).

From January 2023 (End of Transitional Period)

The rules will change for DJI aircraft in their current form. Updated information released nearer the time.
