What Is The Latest Firmware For The Smart Controller?

The Smart Controller firmware update provides added support for the Mavic Air 2. Under Aircraft Management, Mavic Air 2 can now be added and managed.

The key update details are:

  • Date: 2020.09.22
  • Smart Controller Firmware: v01.00.0820
  • DJI GO 4 App: v4.3.36
  • DJI Pilot App: v1.8.0
  • DJI Fly App: V1.1.6
  • DJI Assistant 2: DJI Assistant 2 For Mavic v2.0.14

If your Smart Controller is on version v01.00.04.75 or earlier, it must be updated using DJI Assistant 2.

To do this, download the latest DJI Assistant 2, and follow the steps in Firmware Update section in the DJI Smart Controller User Manual.

The update is available now. Read our How To Update The DJI Smart Controller guide to complete the process.

Why Should I Get The Smart Controller?

By releasing the firmware update, DJI has fulfilled a wish of many Mavic Air 2 pilots - to be able to use the Smart Controller with the drone.

The DJI Smart Controller.

So what is so special about the Smart Controller?

Put simply, the device is designed to maximise the outdoor flying experience with the Mavic 2 Series (including the Mavic 2 Zoom, Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Enterprise Series), or other aircraft equipped with OcuSync 2.0, such as the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0.

The DJI Smart Controller has a built-in 5.5-inch 1080p screen, providing an ultra-bright display to keep your live feed easily viewable, even in direct sunlight.

At 1000 cd/m2, the display is approximately twice as bright as conventional smart device screens.

The Smart Controller gives drone pilots an enhanced flying experience.

The DJI Smart Controller is also capable of stable operation in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 40°C, giving you a reliable HD connection with your drone in more places.

The controller connects to your drone as soon as it's powered on for fast deployment, while its integrated design and detachable control sticks provide a really portable solution.

A new controller was unveiled for the Mavic Air 2, but operators still need to use a smartphone or similar device. This is okay, but the Smart Controller provides a far better experience.
