Commercial Drone Banner It’s official, drones are beginning to have a tangible impact on the day-to-day operations of businesses across a wide range of industrial sectors. The new perspectives offered by unmanned aircraft with access to cameras and sensors allow companies to collect more accurate, rounded data-sets. These advances have been helped by the improvement of available sensors, with thermal solutions proving especially popular. With this in mind, commercial drones are best placed in sectors which have requirements for increased mobility and quality data. A common example is businesses that must manage assets spread across vast areas, unsurprisingly they’ve had a long history of issues in their day-to-day operations but drones are able effectively to address these problems. This is especially prevalent in industries such as agriculture and large-scale infrastructural maintenance but the use of drones is also seeing an uptick in sectors as varied as insurance and mining. Professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has conducted a study into the impact the rise of drones is having on numerous sectors and found out the emerging global market value for commercial drone applications. The results are very exciting as you can see below: Commercial Drone Value They have described drones as a disruptive force in the above industries, gradually changing the way businesses approach everything from agriculture to filmmaking. Their report ‘Clarity from Above’ sets the market value for drone solutions at upwards of $127bn. The potential of UAVs in commercial applications has also prompted the foundation of 'Drone Powered Solutions', a think tank run by PwC Poland. To contextualise these results, they take into account the total value of current businesses and processes which are likely to be replaced (in some cases within a matter of years) by drone technology.

Get Qualified with Heliguy

To get in on this rapidly growing market and operate drones commercially in the UK, you need a Permission for Aerial Work (PfAW) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). heliguy™ is a National Qualified Entity (NQE), able to provide accredited training on behalf of the CAA to get you your permissions so you can start earning with your drone. We offer a range of opportunities to get involved with drones including an intensive three and a half day CAA training course, New Pilot Training Days in association with DJI and also bespoke training for emergency services and corporate clients. While the time it takes to complete the course itself varies, our current record holder managed it in 28 days but the average time is between 2 to 3 months, however, this is all down to the work put in by the candidate. Then there's the time it takes to receive your accreditation from the CAA. Recently we've had a trainee complete all the necessary steps with us (Theory, Operations Manual, Practical Assessment) and have his permission confirmed in 34 days. This means that in an ideal scenario, it's possible to train with us and achieve full permission within 62 days. So if you’re looking to get involved in the commercial drone revolution and add UAV services to your business model, it's time to take the first step. heliguy™ can provide you with all the information and advice you require and, if you decide to proceed, book you on the first available course in one of our three high quality locations across the UK.
